Firefighters’ Pension Bulletin 11

McCloud Remedy Update

Member Videos & Indicative Timeline for the Remedy

We are pleased to announce updates to the McCloud section of the pension website. This includes new videos for Active, Deferred, and Pensioner members, to help explain the McCloud ruling. We have also published an indicative timeline for the remedy, which we hope you will find helpful.

In the coming weeks, we will be contacting all affected members with detailed letters to outline the indicative timelines for the remedy. Please note that the website will be regularly updated as we continue to progress through the remedy exercise.

Possible Action for Members who joined NIFRS after 31.03.2012

There are some members who we cannot automatically identify as being eligible for the remedy. This includes those who joined NIFRS after 31 March, 2012, but were part of a different public service pension scheme on or before that date, and did not have a break of more than five years before joining another public service pension scheme.

The following schemes count as public service schemes;

• Firefighters’ Pension Scheme
• Teachers’ Pension Scheme
• NHS Pension Scheme
• Police Pension Scheme
• Armed Forces Pension Scheme
• Civil Service Pension Scheme
• Judicial Pension Scheme
• Local Government Pension Scheme

NIFRS does not typically hold records of your previous public service employment or scheme memberships, and therefore, we cannot automatically determine your eligibility for the remedy.

If you joined NIFRS after 31 March, 2012, and believe you meet the above-stated eligibility criteria, please visit the McCloud Section of the pension website.

There, you can download and complete Form PSP1. Please email the completed form to nifrsqueries@hscni.net, along with any relevant supporting documents.
